Carer Support

Support for the carers of people with dementia is absolutely essential to BIADS and a major reason why we are so passionate about our work. Of the five BIADS staff, four are former carers of people with dementia and our fifth member has many years' experience as a nurse and nursing home manager caring for people with dementia and as such we all understand the challenges faced by carers throughout these illnesses.

Our new staff member is Jacky Phelan who will take the role of Carer Support Worker. Her job will be to ensure that all carers who make contact with us have access to all of the information and advice they need and are fully aware of the services BIADS is able to offer them.

Jacky will take referrals from professionals and from the carers themselves and in most cases arrange a visit either in BIADS' offices or at the carer's home.

BIADS hopes to form a relationship with the carer and person with dementia that will last throughout their journey with the illness. Carer support will introduce people to a variety of help, advice and information as well as make them aware of the social events and support groups available.

Carer support can be as involved as you wish, maybe just a phone call every couple of months to see how things are going if that is all you need or maybe we will see you every week at events or speak to you whenever you have a question or need advice.

We say to everyone "You know where we are if you need us".
